C-SF 001 BOATING SAFETY

The U.S. Power Squadron's basic introductory course for both sail and power boaters includes lessons on seamanship, boat handling, boat types, rules of the road, navigation aids, regulations, adverse conditions, marine VHF radio, knots, trailering, introductory piloting, and digital charting. This course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and is recognized by the U.S.C.G. and qualifies for the WA State Boating Operator's Card.

Join Peninsula College philosophy professor, Dr. Thomas Grimes, for an interactive discussion of contemporary ethics. Topics include: Do correct moral standards exist, and if so can they be known? Do moral truths depend upon God, society, or the individual? What were Mill and Kant thinking? What kinds of moral obligations, if any, do we have towards animals?

C-SF 006 WORLDS WILDEST PLACES

Join naturalist, intrepid traveler and professional photographer Coke Smith for a fascinating series of photo essays illustrating the amazing wildlife and amazing cultures of Madagascar and Southern Africa! Travel with Coke to the wilderness of Madagascar and explore the private lives of such amazing creatures as wild Indri, ring-tailed civets, fosa and dozens of fascinating lemur species. Coke and family spent three months traveling throughout Madagascar and southern Africa and have an immense collection of images and stories that you will no doubt find absolutely fascinating. While exploring the wilds of Madagascar and southern Africa, you will also be treated to visits with the remote tribal groups and spectacular natural sites in the various regions they visited. Coke has been traveling to the region for over 20 years and has guided numerous safaris to southern, eastern and central Africa. Washington State Clock Hours offered.

Sampling from ancient Celtic traditions, with concentration in Irish and Welsh, we'll read and speak together about their histories, themes, and particular delights. We'll follow these concerns as they bleed through the language barrier into English, inflecting the poetry of such masters as Hopkins, Yeats, Thomas, and Heaney.

He is son of Washington State and a pioneer who shaped the foundation of two mass media: Radio and Television. Edward R. Murrow's roots are in the Pacific Northwest and his living legacy is profound and extensive. From the genesis of "60 Minutes" TV news magazine to the "This I Believe" National Public Radio feature and book, Murrow's influence penetrates deep into the newsrooms and political rotundas of modern political life. Join Rich Riski, Peninsula College Journalism faculty, as he shares his research on Murrow's influence with examples from movies, broadcasts, taped interviews and pictures gathered from across the nation.
