Patti Monson, after a long, exciting and critically-acclaimed career in New York City, has recently relocated to Port Angeles. Allan Kozinn (New York Times) wrote about “Ms. Monson pushing the edges of contemporary technique” and seeming “fully at ease with the demands these works made, but the most compelling aspect of her performance was the degree to which she let musicality take over”. This combination of a highly developed technique and an innate musicality make each one of her performances a “must see”. Patti has enjoyed many seasons with the Sequitur New Music ensemble, Bang On A Can, the Curiously Strong Wind Quintet, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Perlman Music Program. Her many guest performances have included the Eastman Electronic Music Festival, the Music from Stanford University series, Pittsburgh’s Music on the Edge Series, and many other prominent venues. Patti is one of the most recorded flutists of contemporary music having performances on the CRI, Koch, Sony Classical, Albany and Nonesuch Labels. Prior to retiring to Port Angeles, Patti served on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, the Bang on a Can Summer Institute, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Perlman Music Program.
This is Kristin Brye’s second appearance on the Maier Hall Performance Series. Another notable performance of hers in Maier Hall took place at the 2011 Gala Inaugural Concert for the performance space when she performed the Trio in A Minor by Johannes Brahms with David P. Jones (clarinet) and Fred Thompson (cello). As an accompanist, Kristin has played for the Metropolitan Opera local and regional competitions in Seattle and St. Louis, the International Horn Convention and the Northwest Horn Convention. She has performed in recital with Frøydis Ree Wekre, Bill McColl and Jerry Folsom and was accompanist for master classes with Natalie Limonick and Eddy Daniels. Kristin has been repetiteur for Tacoma Opera and Anchorage Opera. This program is titled “An Evening of Encores for Flute and Piano” and will feature many beloved works by Bach, Schubert, Fauré, Debussy, Massenet and others.
