Defending NWAACC champs settle for 4th
KENNEWICK - The defending NWAACC champion Peninsula Pirates were sporting championship rings and a little swagger when they arrived in the Tri-Cities for the 2012 NWAACC Basketball Championship Tournament, but there is a good reason repeat champinoships are rare.

JT Terrell signs to play at Southern Cal
PORT ANGELES – Peninsula College sophomore J.T. Terrell signed a National Letter of Intent today to play his junior season at the University of Southern California at a ceremony at the Pirate Union.
Terrell, who was named the No. 1 rated junior college player in America by Swannys Roundball Review, will join an elite group of men’s basketball players who moved from Peninsula College to the NCAA Division I ranks. That list includes Divaldo Mbunga (Montana State), Justin Murray (Washington State), Ray Munyagi (Idaho State) and Bernie Fryer (Brigham Young University).
A graduate of West Charlotte High, in Charlotte, N.C., Terrell was ranked one of the top 50 prospects in the country by ESPN.com. He played his freshman year at Wake Forest where he made 18 starts in 32 games as a freshman, averaging 11.1 points per game, which was second on the team and fifth among ACC freshmen. He set a Wake Forest freshman scoring record for points in a game (26 vs. Stetson on Nov. 12, 2010), as well as three-point shots in a game (7 in a 32-point performance against Iowa on Nov. 30, 2010 that included a game-winning trey with two seconds remaining.)
“J.T. is a dynamic scorer who will be able to impact our team offensively next year,” said USC head coach Kevin O’Neill. “He comes in with the experience of playing in the ACC, which will allow him to have an immediate impact in the conference. He’s an exceptional athlete who can score in a number of ways. He’s as talented as a perimeter player as I’ve coached in college.”
Terrell, who scored 29 points for Peninsula in a scrimmage against the Blue Angels Saturday, will be just one of many outstanding athletes to wear a Pirate uniform this year and may be the first of several expected to sign Division I letters.
The defending NWAACC champion Pirates will play two more scrimmages, Nov. 11 at Bellevue and Nov. 19 at home against the Seattle Mountaineers, an ABA team out of Auburn, before tipping off non-conference play at home on Nov. 22 against Grays Harbor.
